Sport

Sport at St Edmund’s is for everyone. We want pupils to know how to make the most of their individual talents, building on their strengths and natural abilities. We encourage them to form positive habits and to experience social and competitive engagement, which will lead them to continue with sport and physical activity in their future lives.

We are constantly looking for new ways to inspire our pupils so that they not only love sport but show ambition, and strive for their highest level of performance. We aim to develop resilience and passion, and want pupils to learn how to work well as a team, how to communicate effectively and how to think tactically and independently.

Our staff demonstrate a depth of expertise, with high quality creative teaching and coaching in both team and individual sports. Our teams are successful on both local and county stages.

Sports club’s and activities are also offered by our PE Department including cricket, hockey, netball, football, trampolining, badminton and early morning fitness.

Our facilities are some of the best in Canterbury and the surrounding areas. With acres of glorious playing fields, tennis and netball courts, a large sports hall, a heated 25m outdoor swimming pool and all weather astro-turf pitch, we can provide a vast range of activities for our pupils all year round. Hockey, netball, football, cricket and tennis are the major team sports; and trampolining, dance, badminton, basketball are also popular. Our new Fitness Suite provides plenty of opportunity for pupils to engage in activities for their general wellbeing.

We encourage pupils to be ambitious in sport, supporting their journey at whichever level they choose to participate. We focus on the personal development of all our pupils, helping the most able to achieve their dreams through the Elite Athlete Development Programme, and the recreational sportman and woman to find enjoyment through activity.
