St Edmund's
Year 2 – Dragonflies
In Year 2, we give children individual attention as they work to meet their learning targets. Simultaneously, we place a focus on citizenship – encouraging and rewarding positive behaviour, thoughtfulness and good manners.
As with Year 1, we follow the National Curriculum, continuing with a themed approach. Children begin to work with historical, geographical and scientific information, and develop their writing skills. In Year 2, we encourage children to check their own work and make corrections, whilst comprehension becomes part of their reading and their grasp of basic Mathematics is extended. We encourage children to play an instrument at this point, with lessons available through the Music Department.
This year is important for preparing children for the move to Junior School. Consequently, we plan various activities with Year 3, including projects, shared lunchtimes and reading to each other.
