Computer Science
Developments in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics are transforming our world. We work to inspire a hunger for learning about this and more in Computer Science – a hugely exciting subject, leading to highly marketable skills for those who study it.
We offer Computer Science at GCSE and A-level, and enjoy exploring together new technologies and theories, as well as possibilities for future innovations.
We value creative thinking, and give pupils the resources, time and encouragement to explore and discover together. For example, building a computer from scratch, configuring the hardware and loading software is an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Pupils have access to IT facilities both in and out of lesson time, and benefit from highly-qualified teaching staff. Small teacher: pupil ratios help us to instill confidence as well as develop academic ability; a vital skill for the kind of informed learning risks we encourage.
Learning extends way beyond the classroom. The Department has strong links with the University of Kent and local and national STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) partnerships, and we regularly welcome visiting speakers. Pupils also set up their own computer-themed clubs and demonstrate their talents through competitions such as the Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award, and the Perse Coding Team Challenge.
