Bursar and Clerk to the Governors

St Edmund’s School is a 2-18 independent, co-educational HMC day and boarding school located in a stunning site overlooking Canterbury Cathedral and occupying 63 acres.

The school aims to be a caring and disciplined community informed by Christian principles that encourages pupils to become “the best that they can be” and enjoys its reputation for being a friendly, academically ambitious and creative environment.

St Edmund’s School is currently enjoying record levels (currently 650 pupils) with continued success forecasted and was judged as Excellent on all measures in its most recent ISI inspection and won the Independent School of the Year Award for Performing Arts in 2023.

The school is now looking to appoint a Bursar to work closely with the Head and Executive Group to contribute to the school’s strategic development. This position will take overall responsibility for the financial and administrative operations across the entire school, providing effective day-to-day management of all aspects of domestic operations and commercial activities.

In order to apply to this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong financial ability with proven financial planning and reporting – formal qualifications are less important than prior experience
  • Strategic planning and significant project management experience
  • Evidence of leading and developing multi-functional teams
  • Excellent commercial acumen and a high level of operational facilitation
