St Edmund's
This term in Head’s assembly and Chapel, we have been looking at the issues of context and individual agency.
We have covered a range of topics under this umbrella: the Northern Ireland peace process, the experience of “Foundationer” pupils at St Edmund’s, the birthplaces of great distance runners, the life of prison writer/convicted murderer Erwin James and the decline of native languages.
Most powerfully of all, last week we heard from renowned artist, sculptor, curator and educationalist Kevin Dalton-Johnson about how he redirected the anger he felt as a victim of racism in his youth into artistic creativity.
It has been a fascinating journey and we have explored how context affects who we are, but also that we have agency and can reshape the context we find ourselves in.
