St Edmund's
Madrid Alumni Visit
At the start of half term, I visited Madrid with Giselle Durnford, our Alumni and Development Officer.
It was an alumni reunion event for some of our former Spanish pupils that took place at the Hotel Urban in the heart of the city.
It was a good humoured and lively occasion! The attendees talked with affection about particular teachers (Mrs Donnelly, Mrs and Mrs French and Mr Buckingham were especially fondly remembered) and all expressed how much they missed the school and their peer group.
Most of those who came to the reunion are now at university in Spain studying subjects as diverse as Mathematics, Communications and Computer Science.
Interestingly, almost all are studying for their degrees in English, which they recognised was a powerful legacy of their time at St Edmund’s.As part of our 275th Anniversary celebrations, we are seeking to strengthen our alumni network through our online platform and events like this in key locations.
So far, we have met former pupils in Canterbury, London, Leeds, Munich and Madrid and plan to visit Hong Kong and potentially Hamburg and Bangkok in the next twelve months.
Membership of the St Edmund’s family does not end when a student ends their formal education at the school.
